📏 How big is an LP cover really?
– And why it actually matters
Ever googled “LP record dimensions” hoping for a quick and simple answer? Here it is:
A standard 12-inch LP cover measures about 31.5 x 31.5 cm. Simple, right?
…Almost.
Just like jeans sizes or coffee cups at a café – reality is a little more nuanced.
🎶 LP covers can vary (yep, really!)
Most record sleeves follow the industry standard, but as vinyl lovers and holder designers, we’ve noticed that some albums do their own thing.
For example:
- Gatefold covers (the ones that open like a book) are often thicker
- Japanese pressings can be slightly bigger due to outer plastic sleeves
- Modern reissues are sometimes a few mm wider or taller than vintage ones
So even though 31.5 x 31.5 cm is the standard, sizes can vary up to 5 mm in width and height.
🧠 That’s why our holders are smartly designed
At Wall Art Records, our holders fit all kinds of record sleeves – whether it’s:
- A classic gatefold from the ’70s
- A thick modern indie release
- A slim German pressing from the ’80s
💡 Our LP hooks and stands are:

- Easy to mount – with self-adhesive backing
